PYFC 2009 and Beyond Dear PYFC Members, On behalf of the board of directors of Penfield Youth Football and Cheerleading, I’d like to thank everyone – all of you – for helping to make 2009 such a great season. PYFC is an all-volunteer effort. And because of all of you, our very dedicated coaching staffs and board, your sons and daughters learned a lot about the game of football and cheerleading this season; about commitment, dedication and determination; about sportsmanship. And we hope they had a lot of fun doing it. Compared to the other sports and activities our kids participate in, PYFC is a compact, condensed season that’s three months long. And because so much happens in such short period of time, it’s easy to forget all the great things that take place from season to season. So allow me to recap some of the highlights of 2009. - We moved into a gorgeous new home field at Penfield High School, which was fully operational by our last game (thanks PHS!); - We held the organization’s first bonfire ever (thanks Town of Penfield!); - We conducted our first football clinic ever with the Penfield High School varsity football coaching staff (thanks Steve R.!); - We also welcomed a new crop of boys and girls into the organization on all three levels. As for the kids and coaches this year, the proof has been in the pudding. Our cheer teams were stalwarts on the sidelines and dominant in competition all season. In addition to our A squad bringing home 1st place in the very competitive AYFCL tournament recently, just last weekend, the girls brought home 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in their final competition of the year in Hamburg, N.Y. Meanwhile, all three football teams earned playoff spots to compete for a shot at the championship games. And each one gave their opponents a heck of a game. While our C and B teams converged on Pittsford, our A Team boys traveled to Edison Tech and played with so much heart on a cold and sunny morning, they gave NW their first real scare of the season. And that’s saying something. And despite the final score, NW left the field with a newfound respect for Penfield. On the sidelines of that A game our cheer squad literally teamed up with NW cheer squad to swap cheers, teach each other games, joke around and freeze together. It’s that kind of spirit and heart, both on the football field and cheer mats, that has underlined this season for PYFC. And it’s the stuff from which positive, lasting reputations are made. 2009 was indeed a special season. And we’re already hard at work as a board to keep the momentum going in 2010. We have goals to open the org up to give more kids the opportunity to play youth football and cheer, and have more fun. We have more events on the table that will strengthen our ties to the community even further, and ideas to lessen the burden on parents from season to season. And much more. Now, for some house-cleaning. Registration for returning players and cheerleaders for 2010 is February 6. Time and location to be determined. You can mail your registration in to the P.O. Box 141, Penfield, N.Y., 14526 (with photo, and birth certificate copy) but it must be postmarked Feb. 3. Registration for new players and cheerleaders for 2010 is February 27. Time and location to be determined. Coaching – If you are interested in coaching football or cheerleading in 2010, please send a note with your interest and background, as well as team preference to pyfc2010@yahoo.com. Board of Directors – We have several openings on the board this season. If you are interested in joining please send an email to pyfc2010@yahoo.com. In closing, and on behalf of PYFC, I’d like to wish everyone very happy holidays and a terrific off-season. I’d also like to leave you with a copy of the mission statement of the organization. We crafted this at the beginning of the year to reflect a commitment to upholding a higher standard, on the field and off. I think we did it justice this season. I hope you agree. Till 2010... MISSION STATEMENT - PYFC is committed to teaching and developing successful football and cheerleading skills to the youth of Penfield. As part of this commitment, and through hard work and dedication, the all-volunteer organization will foster an environment of integrity, fair play and success. On the field and off, from the coaches to the players, from the parents to the Board of Directors, PYFC is one, unified, organization that embodies the best of the Town of Penfield and the game of football. Mike Mike Zimmerman President Penfield Youth Football and Cheerleading Help Pave the Patriot Path: Penfield High School Stadium For those of you who don’t know, the high school stadium is still under construction but set to be officially open in August. One of the few things the venue will not have out of the gate is field lights. To help raise money for lighting, the school is selling individual walkway bricks, or pavers, adorned with donors’ names, which will be placed in the Patriot Path walkway leading into the stadium. To help spur the fundraising effort and buy a piece of immortality at the same time, go to the “Forms” section on this site, download the order form, print it out and send it in. All pricing information is on the form. |
